“It is not good for humans to be alone.” That’s the first hint of divine displeasure we read in Scripture: God does not want us to be cut off from one another.
While our community practices social distancing to limit the spread of COVID-19, maintaining social connection requires intentionally, tenacity, and creativity. During this time when churches, schools, restaurants, gyms, and other gathering spaces are closing in the interest of public health, we are seeking to be the church for one another—even when we can’t be at church.
To help build our capacity for care and connection, we're asking everyone in the church to respond to this brief survey about resources and needs within the congregation. Having this information will help us mobilize as a church to meet needs both within the congregation and in the community.
Based on guidance from public health officials, we won’t meet in-person from the week of March 16 - 31. This includes Wednesday evening activities and Sunday morning services. In the meantime, we’re getting creative about how we connect. This includes:
- Virtual Sunday School classes for kids In addition to Sunday morning, Becky Degan is hosting some opportunities for kids to connect and explore the Bible during the week. Your kids can join here.
- Kids’ Care Packages The staff are pulling together some fun activities for kids to take home.
- Notes of Encouragement We’ll be inviting kids to make and send notes to residents in nursing homes. If you would like a list of addresses to send your own notes for those who can’t currently receive visitors, let the church office know.
- Hosted Hangouts for Sunday School classes If your adult Sunday School class or small group would like to connect via video chat but isn’t sure how, reach out to me and we’ll make it happen.
- Sunday Morning Worship A shortened version of our worship service will go live on Facebook Sunday morning at 10:30.
- Tithes and Offerings You can continue to mail contributions to the church office or make transaction-fee-free contributions through Facebook
Thanks for your commitment to being part of the Body of Christ during this time. Even during times of uncertainty, we're excited for ways that we can deepen our connections. Thanks be to God that none of us is alone.
